Is there a fee charged for this service?
Link2Gov charges a convenience fee (minimum of $1.00)1, 2 for using this service. This fee is not negotiable and will appear on your statement as a separate line item from your tax payment amount.

Will I be charged a cash advance fee?
No, your tax payment will be treated like a retail purchase and not a cash advance.

Will I receive proof that my transaction was processed?
Yes. You will receive a confirmation number at the end of the transaction as proof that your payment has been authorized.

How are payments posted to my IRS account?
The IRS will match the payment to your single or joint filer tax account based on the Social Security Number entered during the transaction. You should enter the Social Security Number of the first (or primary) person listed on your tax return or form. If you are paying business taxes, the IRS will match the payment to the Employer Identification Number (EIN) entered during the transactions.

If I'm married and filing jointly, which spouse's Social Security Number should be used to complete the payment?
The IRS applies payments based on the Social Security Number entered during the transaction process. To ensure the payment is properly applied to the joint filer account, use the Social Security Number of the first (or primary) spouse listed on the tax return.

What should I mail to the IRS once my payment is completed?
You will need to mail your tax return or amended tax return in order to meet the required IRS filing date. You DO NOT need to mail in a payment voucher or any other payment information. We will provide the IRS with the information needed to process and post your payment transaction

How can I be sure that my payment will be timely?
The IRS payment date will be equal to the date your transaction is authorized anc completed. You may pay on time electronically until midnight of the return due date. Therefore, you can make a payment early or on the due date and it will be credited timely.

Will the IRS receive my credit card number?
No.

Do I have to pay the full balance due?
You may pay the full balance or make a partial payment through this service.

What is the advantage of paying over the Internet or phone by credit card?
There are several advantages to paying with your credit card. First, the convenience of picking up the phone or going online and making your payment without writing a check and mailing your payment. Second, your credit card may provide revolving credit. Third, you could earn rewards, points or miles. Additionally, once you receive your confirmation number, you'll have proof that your payment was received.
